How To Care For Your Jewellery

We understand that your jewellery is an investment, so it is important that you look after your piece for yourself and future generations to enjoy.

We recommend that your Jewels of the Kimberley piece is cleaned professionally once a year, and our knowledgeable and experienced staff are best equipped to perform this service for you. We offer a lifetime complimentary clean and check service on all items we manufacture and sell.

When storing your jewellery please use the packaging we have presented them in to ensure they cannot be damaged.

Please refer below for more information about the best way to care for your beautiful new piece from Jewels of the Kimberley.

It may not always be convenient for you to visit our studio, so we recommend using the following method when cleaning your diamonds at home. Simply use a solution of hot water with 10% non-moisturising dishwashing liquid. With a very soft bristled toothbrush gently scrub your diamonds, gold and platinum. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with tissues, and if possible a hairdryer.

Please note that this method is not suitable for pearls and most precious gemstones. We recommend this method for diamond pieces only.

We love our pearls and we want you to love them too! Protect your pearls by storing them separately from other jewellery – preferably in a soft pouch or a lined jewellery case. Apply all skin creams, make-up, hair sprays and perfumes before wearing your pearls.

Always remove your pearls when swimming, gardening and showering.

Cleaning pearls is not complicated. After you wear them, just wipe them off with a soft cloth, which can be dry or damp. This will prevent dirt from accumulating and keep perspiration, which is slightly acidic, from eating away at the pearl nacre.

Strands should be checked regularly and may occasionally need restringing. We offer a complimentary restringing service for all Jewels of the Kimberley strands. Please see our repairs and services guide for further information.

Omega neckpieces are classified as ‘occasional pieces’. They are fairly strong but can be damaged easily if they are not cared for in a proper manner.

This chain should always be removed before sleeping, exercising and showering. Please also take care not to catch it on your garments.

These pieces may misshape through impact, pressure or pulling (and this is usually irreparable). To ensure they always look their best, take care to store them flat and separately from other pieces, in the packaging provided by Jewels of the Kimberley.

Neoprene is a special type of rubber, which is hard wearing and can be cleaned easily with a dry or damp cloth. Heat and excessive perspiration can cause neoprene to become hard. Chemicals such as chlorine and dimethicone, (found in hair products, moisturisers, sunscreens and perfumes) will cause brown and grey neoprene to discolour. Avoid showering, swimming and contact with these substances to ensure the longevity of your piece.

Over time it is natural for sterling silver to tarnish. Salty air, sunlight, water, humidity and various chemicals can rapidly speed up this process. To prevent tarnishing, silver should be kept absolutely dry.

To clean silver, use a good quality silver jewellery cleaning cloth. These are available at our studio or online.
